Over the weekend, my ongoing series of discovery of some of the great wines of California brought us a wine from winery new to it – Lula Cellars. While delicately colored, the 2019 Anderson Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir cellared & bottled by Lula Cellars showed ample red berry fruit. Today, we’ll enjoy a rosé from another winery new to this series:

2019 Valdiguié Rosé produced & bottled by Battuello Vineyards (Napa, California).

This wine is 100% valdiguié, a grape grown primarily in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It comes in at 12.5% ABV.

The wine showed a pale salmon color. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, peach and whiffs of lemon all arrived on the nose. Cherry, strawberry, watermelon candy, peach and lemon followed on the palate where the cherry took center stage. The wine exhibited great acidity and balance. It was light-bodied and demonstrated good length. This wine would do well as an aperitif. It would also pair nicely with a butternut squash lasagna.

This wine* can be purchased for $28 directly from the winery’s website.
