Valdiguié Accolades

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdigue
Medium to dark garnet in color, this wine smells of boysenberry and black cherry. In the mouth, rich boysenberry and cherry flavors have a nice freshness thanks to excellent acidity, while notes of cola and flowers linger in the finish. Quite delicious. 14.5% alcohol. Score: around 9.

Wine Reviews: California New Releases

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

Vibrant purple color. Fruity, fun but exciting aromas of cherries, plums, violets, some cinnamon and earth tones. Juicy and smooth on the palate, a velvety/light tannic feel mixes with vibrant acidity. Juicy red cherries and wild blackberries mix with elements of violets, pepper, anise, also some graphite, milk chocolate and coffee. This is a fun but complex and exotic Valdiguié worth seeking out. Battuello Vineyards: A Napa Grower’s New Wines

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

Dark ruby. Our favorite of the Battuello portfolio, the Valdiguié offers delicious fresh aromas and flavors. Dark berries and spicy toasted oak show on the nose, while the palate reveals huckleberry, plum and a hint of red berries. There’s beautiful balance, juicy acidity, and good persistence on the finish. This wine is a winner! Aged in French oak. 145 cases produced. 14.5% alc. 92.

Battuello Vineyards — Two Versions of Valdiguié

by Fredric Koeppel  |  Wed 7 Oct 2020

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

The Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié 2018, St. Helena, belies the notion that the grape produces light and light-hearted wines. The color here is dark ruby that displays a transparent magenta rim; intense aromas of black currants and blackberries are permeated by notes of lavender and licorice, loam and graphite, with exotic traces of sandalwood and allspice; there’s plenty of acidity to keep the wine vibrant and alluring on the palate, with a texture of medium weight, a quite dry effect and a finish of dusty tannins and a touch of oak. 14.5 percent alcohol. Now through 2022 or ’23. Definitely drink this wine with hearty fare. Very Good+.

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

The history of Napa Valley runs deep, back to days before Cabernet Sauvignon occupied the throne.  In St. Helena, today one of the top sites for Cabernet, there are a few small sites featuring some of the heritage grapes of the area.  Battuello maintains some plantings of what used to be known as Napa Gamay within their 82 acres of vineyards, and makes both a red wine and a rosé that offer a look into the valley’s past.  This vintage shows bold Grand Cru Beaujolais-like style, with rich cherry, blueberry and spice, yet it shows a little rustic edge that is unmistakably California.  For those wishing to know the region’s roots, this is a fun glimpse into the past. 90.

Gems in MY Glass . . . Napa, Tasting Notes

by Ellen Landis  |  November 30, 2020

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

Fragrant floral notes capture your attention at first whiff of this medium-bodied, fully flavored, dry red wine.  Wild raspberries, Sweetheart cherries, huckleberries, a kiss of oak, strawberry-rhubarb sauce, and a hint of crushed thyme coat the palate, and will have you reaching for more. Smooth and nicely balanced with well-integrated tannins and lively acidity that carries the wine to a satisfying close.

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié

This producer has been growing Valdiguié since the 1920s. This red is immensely appealing and approachable. Showing just a tiny bit of underlying grip, it stays lively and focused, with a hint of baking spice and vanilla. VIRGINIE BOONE
