2017 Battuello Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep purple color. Saucy, deep aromas with plums, jammy blackberries, with roasted coffee, vanilla, anise, mocha, deep, sweet earth. Full-bodied, rich with chewy tannins and moderate acidity. Plummy, saucy, deep blueberries and sweet blackberries. Notes of mocha, vanilla, charcoal and clove add complexity. A big but charming Cab that has complexities to uncover in the decanter or a few years in the cellar. (89 points IJB)

2017 Battuello Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Battuello 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena, Napa Valley ($90) 91 Saturated dark ruby. Showing a dark red fruited nose of mulberry, plum, cassis and toasted oak, this is a nicely concentrated, albeit slightly rustic, Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavors mirror the nose with well integrated oak and earthy dark red fruit, finishing dry with good extract. There’s excellent fruit in this wine; greater refinement would give it an even higher evaluation. 14.4% alc. Just 65 cases made. 65 cases made, 14.4% alc.

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon ($90): The alluring nose is chock full of heady dark fruit, and the entry offers up mulberry and black currant notes. Broad, complex, and precisely balanced through the palate where Bing cherry, blackberry, cassis, pipe tobacco, savory spice, subtle oak, and underlying earthiness interlace. The pure core of fruit, firm backbone of tannins, and balancing acidity speak to this wine’s cellar worthiness, and the finish is everlasting.
